APPLICATION BACKGROUND
As an important national base for medical scientific research and technological innovation in China, the hospital has ranked on the top of the list of Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM) of Chinese Hospitals and Chinese Medical Schools, and is ranked among the top 1% in the world in ESI’s ranking for the discipline of clinical medicine. It has undertaken a number of national scientific research programs. However, the hospital faces many challenges, such as the difficulty involved in building algorithm models, the lack of understanding of AI-based scientific research processes, the high cost of working with technical engineers, and the time and energy consumption of data annotation, thus restricting the overall development of AI scientific research.
IMPROVEMENT AND FEEDBACK
To address these problems, the hospital introduced our Darwin AI research platform in 2021, on which the drag-and-drop modeling tools were used to drag and mix the algorithm modules to quickly build an algorithm model. This method has simplified the tedious process of code editing while retaining the flexibility of code programming, displaying the modeling process clearly and intuitively. With the support of the AI-assisted automatic data annotation tool provided by the platform, annotation efficiency was effectively improved by 90%. As of present, the Darwin AI research platform has been applied in many departments of the hospital, supporting more than ten research projects.
APPLICATION BACKGROUND
The hospital, as the cardiovascular diagnosis center in the province, treats more than 500,000 patients with cardiovascular diseases every year. About 400 cases of coronary CTA screening are performed on a daily basis, and 30 minutes will be spent on a single diagnosis on average. However, the heavy post-processing work, where about 90% of the time is spent, consumes too much working time and energy of the diagnostician. Additionally, due to such a huge number of screenings and cumbersome post-processing diagnostic procedures, patients often have to make an appointment 3-5 days ahead of time for a testing procedure.
IMPROVEMENT AND FEEDBACK
To improve the diagnostic efficiency and provide doctors with more time and energy for clinical diagnosis, the hospital introduced our AI analysis system for Coronary CTA in 2021. As a result, AI post-processing, AI image analysis, structured report and AI film typesetting can be automatically completed within 20 seconds, saving doctors about 20 minutes on average for each diagnosis. Thanks to greatly improved diagnosis and treatment efficiency, the hospital can perform coronary CTA screening for more than 500 cases in a single day, thus helping more patients to undergo examinations in a given time span.
